Thin-film PV Factory Economic Considerations

Solar Thin Films offers one of the world's most capital and cost efficient solutions for the production of thin film solar modules, and will provide qualified customers with a summary project plan, financial pro forma, and associated cost of goods sold analysis. For a fee STF will provide a detailed financial pro forma, project plan and assistance in completion of a full business plan.

The cost of production will depend on a variety of factors including the project capital cost, production throughput and module efficiency, which STF supplies under contract and are measured in a performance test upon completion of the installation; local factors such as prevailing labor rates and key material costs, which can be estimated in advance; and of course the ability to properly manage and maintain the installation over time. The facilities profit and return on investment will depend on average selling price and volume, as well as the availability of local incentives including capital grants and subsidized loans.

Target production costs, depending on local wages and scale of production range from roughly $1.00 per Watt and under to $1.50 per Watt. Calculated returns on investment may range on the order of 15% to 20%.
